Keynote speaker

Jamy presents unique “Magical Metaphors” that use magic in original ways to visually and memorably illustrate principles of, for example, creativity, brainstorming, risk management and more.

Do you need:

  • A dynamic keynote speaker to kick off an annual conference?

  • An upbeat closing presentation filled with meaningful take-aways to cap an awards program?

  • A focused, hard-hitting dose of real-world motivation perfectly suited to results-oriented breakout sessions?

Jamy was a vital component in the success of our design conference. His ability to educate, entertain and challenge the thinking of the audience was unprecedented. Two months later and people are still referencing his talk. Magic, User Experience, Edward Tufte, Humor — how could any of this hang together and remain coherent? Well, Jamy made it all work seamlessly, and at a level that challenged the audience to think beyond their everyday world. He was a high point of our conference.

Jamy Ian Swiss was one of the most popular speakers we’ve ever had at the GEL conference. His presentation blended themes of marketing, design, history, psychology, performance, and ended with a custom-built experience that brought together a central takeaway of the entire event.

Heavy Mental

Empathy: A Job Skill

Making the Impossible, Possible

How Magic Works

First presented at the GEL (Good Experience Live) conference in New York City, this talk was subsequently picked up by a number of bloggers and sites in the UX and UI communities. Combining his experiences collaborating with information design guru Edward Tufte on his book, Visual Explanations, working as a UI design consultant for Evernote, and his unique expertise in magic, Jamy talks about how UI and UX require empathy in order to recreate the users mind and create an effective illusion.

UX Magazine called it “a great presentation!”

A presentation to inspire and challenge creatives! No matter what your job is, the most important part of your work is facing challenges. Whether you're a sales rep or an engineer on an oil rig, whether you're in customer service or the management team, inevitably your job comes down to trying to make the impossible possible.

As it happens, making the impossible possible is an exact job description of the professional magician. Jamy makes the impossible possible with imagination, innovative thinking, specialized skills, experience, teamwork, creative problem-solving, and reasonable risk-taking — tasks he can speak to your organization about with deep insight and high impact.

“How Magic Works” is a uniquely original presentation that utilizes a close analysis of a single card trick to consider how “the method is not the trick” not only in magic, but in any creative endeavor. This talk — ideal for anyone whose work is intended for users or audiences of any sort — is an eclectic tour of many of Jamy’s passions and interests, including narrative structure, film, information design, branding, con games, psychology, deception, magic, and more.

EG Conference producer Michael Hawley says, “"Jamy Ian Swiss is brilliant: one of the supreme virtuosos of magic, a great scholar, and able to thoughtfully relate it to the worlds of business. His presentations at the EG have been simply stunning."
